Welcome to Candidates for the Position of Senior Pastor

Georgetown Presbyterian Church (GPC) is located in the historic area of Georgetown in Washington, D. C. We have been a part of this community since 1780. In those early years, we provided the village with Christian ministry, schools, and a place for baptisms, weddings, and funerals. We started new protestant churches and had our church building used as a hospital for Union and Confederate soldiers. In the last century, GPC and a downtown African-American church created a joint venture to buy and renovate a non-profit apartment building for low income residents. We sponsored refugees from Hungary, Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Bosnia; we also helped homeless families become independent again. Along with other churches, we now host a homeless shelter and we participate in making breakfast for the needy. We support and raise money for Children of Uganda, and do many other projects for others and ourselves. Through all these years, we have been a help and comfort in times of need in the community as well as a place for joyful celebration.

Many of us became members of GPC as young adults in Washington and were so attached to the church, its ministry and family, that we remained active members though we might have moved to the suburbs. Others stayed in Georgetown and have participated actively in the community and the church. Newer members continue these patterns. Some of our families go back three generations. We find GPC to be a wonderful church family.

The Pastoral Nominating Committee began its work in February. With much prayer and hope we have prepared the Church Information Form (CIF) so that candidates may learn more about us and be inspired to help us as we continue our journey toward discipleship. GPC already had a website of which this CIF is now a part. We urge you to enjoy the rest of the site and get a feeling for the life of our congregation. We hope you will find our love of Christ throughout as described on this website and will then be inspired by this CIF.

We will be happy to answer your questions as you respond to the CIF. We look forward to meeting candidates and welcoming our new pastor.
