excel academy

Excel Academy is the first all-female public charter school in the District of Columbia. Founded a decade ago, they teach over 700 students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Located in Barry Farm in SE DC, they serve some of the most vulnerable students in our city, including some of the 4000 District students who are homeless.

Since 2015, it has been GPC’s privilege to partner with the leaders of Excel to help give students access to essential resources for learning, including music and arts supplies, musical performance opportunities, and even a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and hear from civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga).

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity provides affordable housing across the country and around the world. Here in DC, safe, affordable housing is particularly safe. Families in need of housing and volunteers partner together to build a house, and Habitat for Humanity facilitates low-interest, affordable mortgages for families. Volunteer build hours and donations make this possible.

REMEMBER NIGER

Our congregation understands that our obligation of service is not limited to our immediate neighborhoods, but reaches out to the rest of the world. Because of this, we are committed to forming lasting relationships with communities far and wide.

The popular “Rally for Niger” supports Remember Niger, an organization that works with the Evangelical Church in Niger to build schools and provide quality education for all in one of the poorest countries on the continent of Africa.

We have been involved with Children of Uganda since its founding in 1996. Through direct financial support, or through the Music for Mission program, we have helped to provide scholarships for orphaned children to go to school and to receive food and clothing.

We also support a variety of other ministries through our Christ Market every Advent, offering alternative gifts from local and fair trade organizations.
