Mark Willey

Mark has been a part of the staff since 2014, first as interim director, then officially appointed in December 2014. An avid advocate for the fine musical craftsmanship of the baroque composers, especially J.S. Bach, Mark has already planned and led worship services that integrated Bach’s Cantatas 51 and 147, and Magnificat in to the liturgy. Currently, the choir and its section leaders are singing through the complete oratorio Messiah by G.F. Handel, presented over nine Sundays throughout the 2017/2018 liturgical year. Mark holds degrees in organ performance from Peabody Conservatory (B.M.) in Baltimore, Maryland and the Eastman School of Music (M.M.) in Rochester, New York, with additional training in vocal pedagogy and choral conducting from Westminster Choir College. Concurrent interests in music technology, filmmaking, and carpentry have resulted in engineering and producing credits on classical recordings, documentary shorts, and custom cabinetry for the choir rooms in which he’s worked. 2018 and beyond will see concert programs for solo organ of works by Sigfrid Karg-Elert, and J.S. Bach, (of course), and a diverse choral program for the services at GPC that explores the varied music library in service to the worship of God. Soli Deo Gloria!
